iPad Review

If you are reading this, you are most likely debating on whether or not to drop $499 on an iPad. There are many pros and a few cons and this will help you make the choice as to whether or not you want to buy one. Let’s get started, shall we?

Keep in mind, the iPad is quite amazing, but will not completely replace your at home desktop computer. Think of it as Apple’s form of a netbook, only much higher powered. The design is gorgeous, with a sleek wide screen, along with minimal screen glare, but the sensitivity of the screen is fantastic. There is an audio jack and microphone jack, along with the standard Apple connector, similar to the ones seen on your iPod or iPhone.

The one thing that dissappoints me is no USB ports, which would be perfect for plugging in your camera to transfer pictures or even a webcam, although later models of the iPad are rumored to include a front facing camera. The body feels nice and sturdy and the home button works perfectly, although the speaker quality is somewhat lackluster. My advice: Use headphones.

Media use and ease of use is a favorite of mine. You could hand your iPad to anyone and they would understand how to use it within five minutes. The interface is similar to an iPhone or iPod Touch. The Safari Web Browser runs perfect, and displays websites perfectly. One of my favorite features is the apps. You may think, well I can use my iPhone for that. I thought this same thing until I started to use some of them. Games can be played in full HD on this thing with no lag time whatsoever, along with full streaming of YouTube videos. This thing is a “beast” and I enjoy using it much more than my laptop.

Along with games, a really neat feature is the ability to read books, and you can turn the pages with the swipe of a finger. This is the future of reading. Kids will love this feature, as many books such as “Alice in Wonderland” have pages that come to life and touchscreen features, making the user experience very much interactive.

The iPad is also perfect for your news on the go. Read your NY Times or NY Post just like a newspaper, which makes it much more convenient that carrying around all that paper.

E-mail is also very easy to view, but one problem I have is some file attachments are unable to be opened or saved such as ZIP files.

One of my favorite attachments is the keyboard dock, but typing on the touchscreen is much easier than I thought it would be. Also, the battery life is excellent. I have used this iPad for over two hours today and the battery life is still at 93%. Quite revolutionary. Whether you decide to purchase the 3G version, meaning you will have to buy an AT&T data plan, or the WiFi only version, which I own, both own up to expectations and are fantastic new devices for their low price point.
